Era Ball
Era Ball Salary Cap Draft Strategy — Budget Frameworks & Roster Balance
What Salary Cap Draft Changes
Salary Cap Draft is Era Ball's constrained draft mode: instead of picking anyone, you build a roster within limits. This page is a general strategy framework — not in-game tested values.
Salary Cap Draft appears on eraball.com's mode menu as the drafting variant with built-in limits — the developer has described it as building a roster under tier limits rather than simply taking the best available player. The exact cap numbers and tier rules are shown in the game, and they are not reproduced here: we haven't measured them in-game, and numbers that change would make this page lie to you.
What translates to any capped draft is the framework. A cap forces three decisions every roster builder makes: how much of the budget goes to your top players, how you fill the rest cheaply, and where you refuse to spend. The sections below are that framework, written for basketball and honest about being methodology rather than tested settings.

A Four-Step Framework for Any Capped Draft
General draft methodology, not Era Ball-tested numbers.
Read the constraint before falling in love with players
Open the mode in-game and see how the limit actually bites — is it a total budget, per-player tiers, or position slots? The right strategy is downstream of the actual rule.
Price your anchors first
Decide how many premium players the cap can carry before you pick them. Committing the budget to two anchors and filling around them is a classic structure; so is one anchor plus depth. Choose deliberately, not pick by pick.
Fill roles, not stat sheets
Cheap roster spots should cover what your anchors can't: if your stars are offense-first, the budget seats go to defense and rebounding. Every lineup needs scoring, size, and someone to guard the perimeter.
Sanity-check the balance before you simulate
Before locking in, look at the roster as a whole: does it have an identity, does it have a weakness you chose to accept, and did you accidentally pay twice for the same skill? Capped drafts punish redundancy.
Salary Cap Draft Tips
Stars-and-scrubs versus balanced — know your tradeoff
Paying top dollar for two superstars and filling the roster cheaply maximizes your best players' impact; a balanced build spreads risk. Neither is right in the abstract — pick the one whose failure mode you can accept.
Never pay twice for the same skill
Two elite scorers who both need the ball duplicate each other's value under a cap. The second premium pick should cover a different job than the first.
Use era knowledge as a discount
Every decade has players the historical record rates highly but casual fans underrate — 1970s Kareem is famous, 1970s role players less so. Knowing the decades is a real edge in any draft against the field.
Depth is what survives a long simulation
An 82-game schedule punishes thin rosters in real basketball, and structure-wise the same logic applies to season sims: bench quality is not a luxury spend.
Keep a notebook between drafts
After each run, note what the roster lacked. Two or three capped drafts of notes will teach you more than any static guide — including this one.
Salary Cap Draft FAQ
What is the actual salary cap number in Era Ball?
We don't publish one. Cap values and tier rules live in the game at eraball.com and can change with updates — check the mode in-game for the current numbers.
How is Salary Cap Draft different from Normal Draft?
Normal Draft lets you take the best available players; Salary Cap Draft adds roster-building limits, so you can't simply stack every all-time great on one team.
Is this strategy tested in-game?
No. It's general capped-draft methodology written from draft-strategy fundamentals. Treat it as a thinking framework, and verify what works in your own runs.
